ABSTRACT
Oral submucous fibrosis is being recognized now as a chronic, insidious, premalignant condition affecting the mucosa of oral cavity, pharynx and the portion of upper oesophagus. Characteristically, it shows epithelial and sub-epithelial inflammation followed by fibro-elastic alterations in sub-mucosal region thereby leading to difficulty in opening mouth. Thus, stiffness of oral mucosa causes trismus and inability to eat. If untreated at earliest, it can progress to squamous cell carcinoma. Wardha is the smallest district in Maharashtra and a significant number of cases of oral submucous fibrosis and oral cancer are reported at the tertiary care hospital of the Health Sciences University. This study was conducted to shed light on the Scientific Productions of this Health Sciences University in Central India regarding cancers and oral submucous fibrosis over the period of last 15 years. METHODSThe Scopus and Web of Science databases were accessed, and the publications affiliated to the University were retrieved using the specified search query. The publications thus accessed were imported as BibText and RIS files and checked for duplicates in both databases. Duplicates were removed, and the final list of publications was prepared. Data related to finalised publications was imported to R-Studio application for producing the graphs and plots related to the number of scientific productions. RESULTSThe search generated a data of a total of 191 documents from 71 Sources (Journals, Books, etc.) for the period from 2007 – 2020. The number of authors included a list of 1356 authors. Authors of single-authored documents were 6; whereas, authors of multi-authored documents were 1350. Thus, there were 7.1 authors per document, 9.13 co-authors per document. The Collaboration Index was 7.3. Average citations per document was 37. CONCLUSIONSThe university has contributed significantly to the scientific literature on oral submucous fibrosis.
ABSTRACT
Bibliometrics is the use of statistical methods for analysing books, articles, and other publications. It is useful to analyse the research impact, assess the quality of research using quantitative and qualitative measures, describe patterns of publication, determine the influence of writers, describe the relationship between different writers or researches. This study was conducted to evalute the number and trends of materials affiliated to Health Sciences University published in Web of Science indexed journals.METHODSThis was a retrospective observational study. The Web of Science database was accessed through institutional Login and all published materials affiliated to Health Sciences University were searched. The file of all searched materials was exported in BibTex format, which was fed to R-Studio Application after installing the Bibliometrics package. Imported data was downloaded and bibliographic data frame was created. Basic information of publications was recorded including the number of citations, citation density, journals, publication year, authors, institution and country of origin. Results were summarized using descriptive statistics.RESULTSBibliometric analysis of publications affiliated to Health Sciences University between 2017 to 2019 generated a list of 182 articles from 75 sources which included 180 Journal Articles and 2 articles in Book Chapters. Highest number of publications were 82 in the year 2019 followed by 51 in 2017 and 49 in 2018. The Annual Percentage Growth Rate of Scientific Productions was 26.8. The publications showed total 2170 authors of which 09 were authors of ‘single-authored documents’ and 2163 were authors of ‘multi-authored documents’. The Collaboration Index of all published materials was 12.5.CONCLUSIONSThis analysis reflects on the historical perspectives of Health Sciences University publications and its progress in Web of Science indexed Scientific Medical Literature database.
ABSTRACT
An innovation launched by Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences emphasized on promoting early child development through govt. Anganwadi centers under the project ‘Stepping Stones’. The innovation includes delivery of Enhanced Anganwadi Curriculum and Parenting Sessions through home visits by trained Anganwadi Workers with support from Community Health Workers. A system of computerized online and of training certification test was developed. This paper outlines the results of feasibility and acceptance of this system by Community Health Workers in maternal and child health programs.METHODSPre-tested questionnaire with questions on different aspects of certification test and responses with Likert-type scoring scale was provided to 30 randomly selected community health workers trained by DMIMS. Weighted means of total scores for agreement/disagreement for feasibility and acceptability questions was calculated.RESULTSAverage Weighted Mean of 4.07 demonstrated a strong agreement by all participants towards the feasibility and acceptability of this test. 47.67% candidates showed strong agreement.CONCLUSIONSSuch type of tests can be framed and utilized as, time saving screening, and certification test, for different types of community healthcare cadre.
